:-The BJP Government is mentally and financially harassing farmers:- Kumari Selja
Chandigarh / 9th, November
The General Secretary of the All India Congress Committee, former Union Minister, and MP from Sirsa, Kumari Selja said that there could be nothing more shameful for the government than a farmer committing suicide over fertilizer, seeds, or pesticides. Farmers are crying out for fertilizer, yet the administration claims there is no shortage. If there is no shortage, then why are farmers unable to access it, leading to such despair that they resort to suicide? The government must change its perspective and policies toward farmers. Farmers are the providers of food for the nation, and their honor and needs should be prioritized. MP Kumari Selja visited the family of Ram Bhagat, a farmer from village Bhikhewala in the Uklana Mandi area who committed suicide, to offer condolences. She expressed her sympathy to the family and said that the government must seriously address the issue of farmers taking such extreme steps for fertilizer, as nothing is more important than a farmer's life. The government should take actions to prevent farmers from feeling forced into such desperate measures. Kumari Selja said the need for inspection of warehouses and stocks of fertilizer sellers. If any seller hoards DAP or urea and refuses to sell to farmers, strict action should be taken against them.
She said that while farmers are committing suicide over DAP fertilizer shortages, CM Naib Saini claims there is no shortage in the state. She questioned why the government can detect stubble burning from satellites but fails to notice the long lines of farmers waiting for fertilizer. If there is enough fertilizer, why isn’t it reaching the farmers, and who is selling DAP at black market rates? It is unfortunate that a farmer in Uklana had to take his own life due to the unavailability of fertilizer.
