HUMAN RIGHTS: AN ANALYTICAL APPROACH

ADVOCATE NEHA TANDON

The concept of Human Rights is, paradoxically, both simple and complex — a true paradigm in itself. Its definition is scattered across numerous Acts, Articles, and Books, yet at its core, Human Rights signify the very basic, inherent nature and dignity of every human being.

The Present Global Scenario

When we look across the world today, we find flagrant violations of human rights everywhere. Despite international laws, declarations, and institutions, the reality remains disturbing — the respect for human dignity is fast eroding.

Over time, the very essence of human rights has undergone a drastic metamorphosis. In today’s world, when someone dares to raise the issue of human rights, they are often met with mockery, sarcasm, or indifference. Shockingly, the violations do not occur only in public spaces or authoritarian regimes — they often begin within our own homes.

Be it in parental or marital settings, domestic violence, defamation, emotional abuse, and psychological torture have emerged as some of the gravest human rights violations. These acts are frequently driven by hatred, jealousy, grudges, conspiracies, and animosity.

Between Slogans and Reality

Sadly, the loud slogans raised in the name of human rights often remain confined to speeches and paperwork. Implementation is missing. Policies exist, but the will to enforce them does not. Advocates and activists admit that laws alone cannot compel everyone to respect human rights — it requires a collective change in attitude and moral awareness.

Countless cases of human rights violations go unreported and unnoticed, buried under social pressure, fear, or ignorance. This gap between law and reality continues to widen.

The Way Forward

Volumes can be written on the subject of human rights, but real transformation will occur only when people truly become serious about humanity itself. The essence of human rights lies not merely in laws or declarations but in love, compassion, and mutual respect — values that must be practiced daily.

It is only when individuals begin to honor humanity as they honor the Almighty, that the dream of a just and dignified world will truly take shape.
