DSGMC announced to start a campaign for deportation of fugitive grooms
New Delhi (YOGRAAJ SHARMA): The trend of Punjabi immigrants to abandon their newlywed wives after getting settled in abroad has taken the form of social evil. According to the official figure of NRI wing of Punjab Government, the number of abandoned girls by Punjabi immigrants reached to 30000. While talking to the media about this matter, DSGMC President Manjit Singh G.K and General Secretary Manjinder Singh Sirsa announced to start a campaign for deportation of fugitive grooms. G.K. sent a letter to Giani Gurbachan Singh in which he appealed him to order the management of Gurdwara to do prior proper investigation of NRI groom for Anand Marriage.
Today G.K. has sent a letter about this matter to Union Minister of Home Affairs Rajnath Singh, Union Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj and C.M. of Punjab Capt. Amrinder Singh. In which he demanded to make S.I.T. for getting justice to victims of this matter. He gave advise for extradition of fugitive grooms from abroad after mutual coordination with government offices. G.K. announced the opening of NRI Cell in DSGMC Office, headed by chairman of Legal Department Jaswinder Singh Jolly.
G.K. said that some victim girls related to the NGO named “AB Nahi” contacted him for this matter. After that we decided to give them official help. On one side Sikh History is the history of helping every daughter & on other side trend to make girl as a ladder to reach abroad by grooms is exposed in Punjab. News has been reported that the brides are abandoned with children from their in-laws home.
G.K. said that weak legislation is providing help to fugitive groom to abandon their wives. Usually Immigrants after getting settled in abroad abandon their wives by their and also by eliminating their right from family property. From this, there is the beginning of their mental & economic exploitation. When any girl takes help from court or NRI Wing, then evidence is sought from her at every point. Many girls stepped back from their legal proceedings because of their financial condition and with some others, police does not continue with their L.O.C. G.K. demanded that the Indian Government should try the deportation of fugitive grooms by giving strict instructions to the Passport Authority and Indian Embassy of abroad. If Indian Government is capable for the extradition of Abbu Salem & Chhota Rajan then there would be no problem for the extradition of fugitive grooms.
Sirsa said that to overcome the weak law in this matter, he will contact the Indian External Affairs Ministry, so that social evil can legally stop. The problem lies with Indian embassy of abroad not using directions for seizing the passport by regional passport authority despite court’s order and not making sure their come back. Even if the case is registered by victims, the in-laws eliminate them from family property and illegally transfer their property to another family member. There is a need to make strong legislation so that the passport of accused boy is not renewed without investigation by local police etc., to stop the mental & financial exploitation of brides.
Victim Satvinder Kaur while describing the problem faced, stated that the matter be resolved urgently and dealt strictly so that it is not suffered by any other girl. The objectionable words like “Honeymoon Brides” and "usable item" used for them on social media sites further add to their misery and problem.
